Australind 1 v Vasse Ravens 2
The Vasse Ravens had there first 2014 game of the season today travelling to Australind who had a huge support group & came home with a win. The Vasse Soccer Club has welcomed the 3 Bunbury teams in the Youth League Girls competition giving a total of 7 teams.
Australind won the toss but it was Vasse that took control. Sam & Samara winning the ball in the middle of the park & feeding through to forwards Kaylee & Chenaye who ran tirelessly peppering the goal keeper until finally the seal broke at the 16th minute with Kaylee taking on the Australind keeper & slotting the ball home.
It was Vasse all the way in the first half & any attempts to push forward by Australind were quickly shut down by super central defending from Sarah & Emily P, until a strong challenge saw Sarah injured & removed from the ground. With this a change in momentum Australind equalized with a goal mouth scramble to get one past Vasse keeper Ashleigh.
Half time resulted in 1-1 & at the 2nd whistle Australind were on top of there game challenging fast & hard beating Vasse to the ball.
Eliza & Bethany combined superbly to make many counter attacks & from this pressure Chenaye followed up to steal the ball after the Australind keeper fumbled the ball & put Vasse back in front 2-1.
Australind's never say die attitude proved to much for Vasse at one point giving away a free kick at the 19 yard mark but Somer, Alicia, Jasmin & Dom all joined together for a defensive wall & Ashleigh followed up with a fine save.
It was time keeping for Vasse as Australind became stronger as the game went on, thankfully for Vasse Somer took the lead & kept her team in the game with an excellent defensive effort & taking home the Jesters Player of the Day Award.
Vasse have there first home game next week against the mighty Margaret River @ Barnard Park 12pm ko.
