Vasse United 2 V 0 Busselton Cobras
A top of the table clash saw Vasse United host the Busselton Cobras on saturday and they didn't disappoint the parents & supporters.
It was the first time these two teams have met and on paper the teams were quite even but you never now what game day will bring.
From the whistle it was a tight even contest & both teams having there shining moments Busselton held strong in the centre of the park & looked at their most dangerous when young Janaya Burleigh had the ball at her feet, Vasse's defence captained by Ariana Longmore, Brooke Fields, Emily Parkhurst, Ashleigh Jackson & Harriet Hole held strong & backed up by young superstar goal keeper Sarah Hollet didnt hesitate to shut down Busselton's attacks.
After countless attacks from both teams the deadlock was finally broken minutes before the half time whistle when Samantha Baillie won a contested ball in the centre then passed to Ashleigh Fletcher who cut the ball through Busselton's defence to super striker Siobhan Longmore who made no mistake placing the ball nicely in the low far right corner of the net.
Vasse were pumped for the second half & Rebecca Williams made a good nuisance of herself in front of goal along with youngsters Dominique Boshoff,Somer Palandri & Bethany Stewart making some impressive runs to make Busselton's defence think twice.
The same intensity came from Busselton's Emy Hayward driving down the wing & challenging the Vasse goal keeper but Sarah was up for the challenge & played a faultless game with some amazing saves.
From one of these saves Sarah feed the ball to Ariana who made no mistake pinpointing out her sister to set up Vasse's 2nd goal, Siobhan realising the importance of placing the ball into the net was the key & not blazing away & Vasse seeing out the final whistle with a 2-0 win.
It was a great team effort for Vasse to keep Busselton off the score sheet & best player went to Sarah Hollet with the best goal keeping performance seen to date.
