VASSE UNITED 2 V DUNSBOROUGH DIAMONDS 1
Vasse United hosted their first home game of the season @ Barnard Park on saturday to the Dunsborough Diamonds coming out with a 2-1 victory.
What can I say but the Dangerous Dunsborough Diamonds brought there game on saturday and challenged Vasse all the way to the final whistle, there was not much between the two teams with end to end shots on goal, keeping the goal keepers on there toes.
Somer Palandri carved up her opponents up on the right wing & created numerous chances for Vasse only to see the Diamonds hungrier for the ball & quick to counter attack.
Finally the deadlock was broken when Siobhan Longmore striked a left foot rocket way to good for any keeper putting the home team on the score sheet.
Elisha Saltarini was a standout in the Vasse goal & saved some otherwise certain goals to seal the first half.
The second half Vasse picked up there game and seemed to have the majority of the play but only for a short period until an accidental hand ball inside the box granted Dunsborough a penalty & well struck it was into the left side of the net 1-1 , this sparked Dunsborough alive and game on again. As the time ticked on Vasse's chances of pulling a win seemed slim until a free kick on the 18 yard line saw Ashleigh Fletcher step up with a fine strike any other time would have been a goal but with a super save & outstanding performance from the Diamonds goalkeeper Lucy Jackson kept the game at deadlock.
On the 87th minute deadlock was finally broken with Elisha sending a splendid corner kick directly along the goal line to Sarah Hollet who only had to guide the ball into the back of the net.
Best player on the day Somer Palandri followed by Elisha Saltarini.
Next week will see a top of the table clash between Vasse & Busselton 12pm @ Barnard
