Busselton 1 v Margaret River 3
Two old arch rivals faced each other on Saturday to open proceedings for both teams in LNJSA 2013 season. There was plenty of talent on both teams and everyone knew that this was going to be the match of the round.
The spectators weren’t disappointed as all the players put on a display of soccer not seen before in regional areas. This game had everything , skill, passion physicality and above all a total respect for each other as the two teams went at it from the first whistle.
Margaret River opened the scoring from a well worked move which saw Sol Masters turn his defender beautifully and the shot was only beaten away to the feet of kelby Guthrie Phelps who put away for his first for the match.
This really upped the tempo of the game as both teams were being tested and midway through the half Busselton equalised from a speculative lob was pushed away by Jesse Gunnis in goal and the Busselton striker was first to put the ball in the net.
Margaret River again wrestled the lead back due to a cool finish from Kelby which saw the half time score 2-1.
The second half saw Margaret River shift into another gear, as they dominated proceedings and Zac Harney scored a well taken third, only poor finishing and good goal keeping saw the score line remain the same till full time.
Congratulations to both teams on a great display, best player for Margaret River was Jayden Stammers who played an outstanding game in the backline.
