Year 6 MiniRoos

Great start for the Rovers

FMR Rovers v FMR Mambos

MR Rovers played their friends and rivals MR Mambos on the first day of the soccer season. Rovers played with great confidence from the outset, Ben Cox setting up Scooter Liew to score first goal of the season within a few minutes. Ben consistently put in good shots, denied at first by Mambos goalie Daniel Botha, but his persistence paid off with great goals in both halves of the game.

Mambos hardworking defence Noemie Marill and Keanu Fritsch earned chances for Parkin Emslie and Andreas Nikulinsky to move forward for their team and, aided by Reina Woolgar, Parkin scored the first of 2 lovely goals for the Mambos.

Rovers responded quickly to a great corner from Ben which rebounded off the goalie, Monique Armstrong swiftly chipping it in.

In the 2nd half Mambos came out fighting with silky skills and a quick goal from Nick Bosich. Andreas and Parkin were both unlucky with great shots but the Rovers were on form with man of the match Finley Angove completing a hat trick , collaborating well with Bailey Kruger who also got on the score sheet. Chips Best solid ball skills found the back of the net 3 times for the Rovers in the second half. Great defending from Maya Blackburn and Araya Heussenstamm for the Rovers held the Mambos at bay.

Both teams showed the enthusiasm needed for great football, on this occasion a combination of teamwork and individual skills plus some energetic goalkeeping from Archie Dowden and Oliver Finch Clarke kept the Rovers ahead. Both teams and spectators certainly have an enjoyable season of football ahead of them.
