Cornerstone Giants 6 v FMR Raiders 2
The FMR Raiders headed into Saturday’s Semi-Final against the Cornerstone Giants full of confidence after a string of good performances.
Hoping to complete a fairy tale finish and take a spot in next week’s Final was all that was on the minds of the FMR players.
The Cornerstone team are big physical bunch and from the Kick off they put the FMR boys on notice but to FMR s credit they rode they early pressure and began a good passing game.
Unfortunately for FMR Cornerstone took the lead with an unlucky goal turned in by Jykia River in goals. Cornerstone then made it two when their front man got the ball on his dangerous left foot and buried the ball in the back of the net.
FMR continued to work hard and were rewarded with a nicely taken goal from striker Nick Gaman to bring it back to 2-1.
The Raiders had beaten the Giants earlier in the season but it seemed today they weren’t going to let that happen again as they added a third goal to take 3-1 lead into the break.
Second half saw the Margaret River boys give their all and put bodies and hearts on the line but in the end were no match for the stronger, older and more powerful Giants.
FMR can take credit for never giving up but the dream ended with the final whistle and a 6-2 score line in favour of the Giants.
Next year will see the Raiders competing in the same division and i am sure people will be talking about them come the end of the season.
Thanks to all the players and supporters for a fantastic year.
Good Luck to the FMR Waves and FMR Warriors in next weekends finals.
