Raiders Battle out Tough Draw

FMR Raiders 2 v Dunsborough Raiders 2

Saturday saw the visit of Dunsborough Raiders to Margaret River in what was billed on paper to be a very evenly matched game with only league place separating them .

The Dunsborough boys have had a few good results of late and showing some good form as have our FMR boys with a win and a couple of good performances against tough opposition.

FMR were missing Brenton Tebbutt with a injury thay would keep him out for a couple of games and a number of the team being sick during the week, also made the task harder.

Dunsborough began the brighter and showed confidence putting FMR straight under pressure, but as always Alister White and Dodi Anderson in defence begin with intent and repelled the early attacks.

It didn’t take long for Dunsborough to open the scoring when they did catch the defence napping and get one past a diving Jykia River .

FMR started to get a bit of composure on the ball but still lack that good passing desired by their coach that will punish teams when done right.

The local boys were rewarded with an individual effort and goal from Nick Gaman who drove into the box and delivered a low hard shot to beat the keeper level the scores.

Late on in the first half Pascoe Paice ,as he has done many times this year, found himself in a great position in the box but was unlucky to see both his efforts cleared from goal. Unlucky mate...

Second half was a tense affair with both teams putting on a great display. Dunsborough again scored first which seemed to spark the FMR boys into life.

FMR began to put pressure on Dunsborough with some great build ups through Luke Harney and Kilburn Booth in midfield. Nick once again grabbed on to a through ball and ran hard at the Dunsborough goal only to be brought down by a last man challenged but still managed to score.

The Ref deemed it to be a Penalty and with no advantage or goal given , Nick stepped up to finish the job and slot home the equaliser.

Both teams pushed hard for a winner with FMR coming close in the dying minutes with Donnie Longmore unable to connect to a beautiful cross at the back post .

In the end it was honours even in a great game .

Players Awards went to Luke Harney and Kilburn Booth, with special mention to Dodi Anderson for another stellar first half.
