FMR Raiders 2 v BusseltonThe FMR Raiders were full of confidence after last week’s performance against a strong ST Joes outfit. Coming off a much improved team display , the Raiders were determined to notch up their first win in five games against the Busselton Sharks.
The local boys were asked to build on the great training they had been doing , be confident and look to create and pass the ball around.
The first half was an end to end battle with the Raiders making more of the chances but the Sharks defence weren’t making it easy. Nick Gaman and Noah Cummins up front were pressing hard but were unable to make the most of their superior possession. Kilburn Booth and Donnie longmore were offering plenty of support for the forwards both laying some dangerous through balls , but it was Brenton Tebbutt who made the difference midway through the half.
With his high work rate and determination he was able to latch onto a loose ball on the edge of the box and open the scoring with a good strike.
Nick Gaman then added a second after a good build up and fired home to make it two.
Moments later Pascoe Paice found himself on the edge of the six yard box with chest high ball approaching and no time to turn , he tried an audacious flick and nearly scored what would have been the probably the goal of the season. Unlucky mate.
The Second half for FMR was about consolidating the win and hopefully keep a clean sheet.
Both teams fought hard and gave a fair account of themselves with Raiders centre backs Alister White , Ethan Hamilton and Goalkeeper Jykia River were continually called into action to stop the advancing Sharks with all three having brilliant games .
In the end the game may have been a bit scrappy in places and some of the passing not up to scratch but it was an entertaining and tough game to watch, with the Raiders eventually taking the points.
Many thanks to Busselton for making it such a great contest.
