Raiders Win Classic Encounter

FMR Raiders 2 v Cornerstone Giants 1

FMR Raiders and Cornerstone Giants fought out a classic encounter on Saturday with the Raiders coming out on top.

Two weeks ago the Giants put on a solid first half against the Raiders to run out winners, so with this return leg the home team needed to lift , show more intensity and display composure on the ball if they wanted anything out of the game .

The Giants again began strong but the likes of Ethan Hamilton, Luke Harney, Dodi Anderson and Jasper Seisun stood tall in defence and held there structure well.

The Giants number 11 was the danger man and he was rewarded with the first goal of the game with a well taken strike.

The Raiders midfield of Noah Cummins , Nick Gaman , Brenton Tebbutt and Jye Halsall began to lift towards the end of the first half winning solid challenges and being first to the ball.

Up front saw a spritely Pascoe Paice putting in a hundred percent working well with the speedy Kilburn Booth.

Raiders went into the break one down but still brimming with confidence knowing they were in with a chance to get something from the game.

The second half began with the Giants really taking the game to the Raiders and nearly increased their lead but were unlucky not to connect with a dangerous cross.

The Raiders responded and were duly rewarded with a penalty after a foul in the box. Donnie Longmore slotted the spot kick .Game on.

The Home team now had fire in their bellies and took it to the visitors and within minutes of the equaliser Nick Gaman broke through the Giants defence and smashed home what would be the winner.

This sent the local spectators into raptures .

Xavier Nikulinsky and Tom Leighton were showing they were up for the challenge for Raiders with both making game saving tackles and clearing the ball off the goal line.

Both teams had their chances towards the end ,the Giants being unlucky after hitting the upright and the crossbar and also thwarted by some fine saves from Jykia River in goals .

In the end FMR Raiders finished 2-1 winners in a great game against strong opposition.

Another massive team performance got the local boys over the line .

Thankyou to the Giants for a game played in great spirit.

Ethan Hamilton deservedly won ‘Man of the Match’ with his never give in attitude .Well done.
