FMR Dugites 2 v FMR Mambos 3
The long awaited season has finally kicked off!
For the yr8's it was a home derby to get the season underway. The day started with the teams taking the centre of the field and pausing for a moments silence to remember their friend and teammate Daniël Botha whom we sadly lost earlier this year.
With new signings and only a couple of training sessions before the first game both teams took a little while to get into their stride. With this fixture last season presenting a 4-4 draw the expectation was high.
It was the Mambos who took the lead with a goal from Koby Siesun.
Outstanding goalkeeping by Henri Sibon kept the Dugites at bay with half a dozen crucial stops then just before half time Kynan Marsh's goal for the Dugites cancelled out the Mambos advantage.
After the break the Mambos hit the front again with a magic touch from Matthew Barnett and then a second from Koby.
Xavier Skivinis brought it back to 3-2.
End to end play followed but solid defending from Ange Kupfler Hollis for the Dugites, Sam Iles and Oliver Leighton for the Mambos preventing any further goals.
With a solid performance from both teams there are huge positives for the season ahead.
