Raiders Through to Final after Muddy Battle

FMR Raiders 1 v Capel Wolves 0

In what was billed as a classic encounter between two tough teams turned into slog out in some of the worst conditions for sport seen in years.

But the game must go on and that it did.

Both Raiders and the Wolves new the only way to play on the waterlogged and muddy pitch was to get the ball off the ground and put bodies on the line.

It wasn’t pretty but the boys from Margs got stuck in.

Liam Mattinson scored the only goal of the game mid way through the first half with a great strike and one of the few shots struck with power during the game but it did prove the difference.

Captain Alister White lead the charge from the back with some well timed tackles and a all round solid performance while Goal Keeper Jykia River ,playing with a ruptured ear drum , showed great courage and a fearless attitude in goals making some fantastic saves and keeping the Capel attack at bay.

The Raiders were determined to make it into the Final and did everything possible to hold out the relentless Capel Wolves., that they did and when the whistle sounded to end the game the Raiders celebrated in style with many a slide through the mud .

Thank you to both teams for getting amongst the horrible conditions and trying to play their best, But after all it is a “Winter Sport”
