Raiders Come Out On Top After Thrilling Encounter

Busselton Lions 1 v Margaret River Raiders 3

FMR Raiders held onto top spot in the U/13 League after being pushed all the way by a resilient BSN Lions team on Saturday morning.

With the 9 o’çlock start it took a while for both teams to settle and start playing some good football.
Raiders worked their way into the game with a few early attacks and strong runs down the wing. But It was Brenton Tebbutt who once again had his name on the score sheet with a cool finish after some good work from the Raiders down the left.

Raiders then added a second from a well taken corner , which flew through the Lions defence , off a head and onto the feet of Donnie Longmore , who scored with a well taken shot.

You could sense the Lions were not going to give in easy with some good attacks themselves but were stopped by the lively Jykia River in the FMR goals and the half time whistle.

Raiders were reminded of Lions resilience and the pressure they had put on teams in recent weeks.

The tempo lifted from both teams but it was the Lions who wanted the ball more , winning tackles and just pressuring the Raiders defence .

The Lions then scored with a strong attack and good through ball. 2-1.

Then the Lions pushed again and were unlucky not to level after the ball hit the upright, crossbar , land on the line and into Ethan Hamiltons hands.

Raiders need a lift and something special from the forward as the backline lead by Alister White and Jye halsall up the right were doing everthing to stop the Lions players.

Liam Mattinson answered the call ,after some great passing up the left with Jasper Seisun and Donnie ,Liam recieved the ball ,dribbled through the defence , then shot low into the bottom corner. Great Goal and what was the sealer for the Raiders.

Thankyou to BSN Lions for a great spirited and nail biter of a game. Well done Raiders for battling hard as a team.
Liam received the players award for his excellent game and goal.
