Busselton United v Dunsborough Glory

History was fresh in the minds of the players who versed Dunsborough Glory several times last season. Knowing they were again going to be worthy adversaries and tough competition, United had to make sure they they were ready to play their best football and they didn’t disappoint.

Both teams were evenly matched in the first half, displaying some good passages of football however it was United who broke through Dunsborough’s defense to score the first goal with a well placed through ball from Harry Cross, comfortably converted by new United player Valentin Kay.

Dunsborough quickly composed themselves as play resumed, fighting well for the ball, however any chances on goal were thwarted by United’s defense.

With just a few minutes to spare before the half time whistle, Harry Cross sliced through Dunsborough’s defense with another well placed ball, this time time finding the feet of striker Kade Marchant, who found himself unmarked and swiftly took his chance, slotting the ball home.

Going in to the second half, both teams were battling it out fighting for the ball which caused the game to become a little scrappy at times, however half way through the second half there was a controversial decision given after two players took each other down fighting for the ball in the box. The referee awarded a penalty which was converted by Dunsborough Glory and LNJSA Development Squad player, Jasper Reynolds.

Dunsborough continued to put a lot of pressure on United which called for the United defense to stand strong and shut down any attacks on goal. There were a couple of close calls from corner balls, only to be punched away by United keeper Toby Hunter.

With both sides continuing to press forward the game play was end to end with Busselton United breaking down the Dunsborough defense once more when Kade Marchant played the ball across the face of the goal, for Valentin Kay to run through and slot it safely home, sealing United’s victory 3-1.
